The Court of Arbitration for Sport confirmed it has received Senegal’s appeal, which seeks to overturn the ruling and reinstate the team as champions.
CAF had awarded the title to Morocco two months after the final, following a dramatic walk-off by Senegal’s players in protest of a stoppage-time penalty decision.
As a result, Morocco were declared 3-nil winners, securing their first AFCON title in nearly five decades.
Senegal, however, argues the decision violates principles of sporting fairness, with government officials backing the appeal.
CAS says an independent panel will now review the case, with both parties given 20 days each to submit their legal arguments.
A final decision is expected after arbitration proceedings, as fans across Africa await clarity on the disputed title.
