The Security Council adopted the resolution on Wednesday, calling on Tehran to halt hostilities following reported attacks on Gulf states and Jordan.
Backed by 13 votes, with Russia and China abstaining, the measure condemned Iran’s missile and drone strikes, warning they threaten international peace and security.
The council also cited damage to civilian infrastructure, including ports and energy facilities, and reaffirmed support for members of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
However, Iran’s envoy to Nigeria, Gholamreza Raja, dismissed the resolution as one-sided, arguing it ignores what he described as acts of aggression against Iran.
He insisted Tehran’s actions were within its right to self-defence under international law and blamed rising tensions on what he called provocative actions by other parties.
The envoy also reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to dialogue and peaceful resolution, while maintaining its right to defend its sovereignty.
