President Félix Tshisekedi has signed a decree establishing a new specialised court to handle financial crimes in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The new tribunal will focus on offences including corruption, money laundering, fraud, and embezzlement of public funds.
Officials say the move is aimed at strengthening the country’s justice system and improving the handling of complex economic crimes.
Until now, many financial crime cases have stalled in the courts, largely due to a lack of specialised expertise among magistrates.
The new structure will include both a trial court and an appeals chamber, with at least forty judges expected to be appointed.
Authorities say those selected must demonstrate strong integrity and experience in financial investigations.
By law, the court is expected to become fully operational within three months of the decree taking effect.
