Joe Kent, Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, announced his resignation, citing opposition to the administration’s decision to engage in the war.
In his statement, Kent said he no longer supports the conflict, arguing that Iran does not pose an immediate threat to the United States.
He also suggested that external influences played a role in the decision to go to war.
Kent, who assumed the role in 2025, had been responsible for coordinating U.S. counterterrorism efforts before his departure.
His resignation comes amid growing debate in Washington over the direction of U.S. foreign policy and the escalating tensions in the Middle East.
