President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed political appointees seeking elective office to step down before the end of March.

The directive requires all affected officials to resign on or before March 31, ahead of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

According to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the decision aligns with provisions of the Electoral Act and the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The order applies to all presidential appointees intending to contest party primaries or seek nomination for elective positions.

Officials say the move is aimed at ensuring compliance with electoral laws and maintaining fairness in the political process as parties begin early preparations for the next election cycle.
