In a statement released by the presidency, Randrianirina named Mamitiana Rajaonarison, head of the country’s financial intelligence unit SAMIFIN, to lead a new cabinet.
Rajaonarison, a former senior gendarmerie officer and civil administrator, replaces Herintsalama Rajaonarivelo, who was dismissed when the government was unexpectedly dissolved last week.
Rajaonarivelo had been appointed shortly after Randrianirina assumed power in October during protests that forced former president Andry Rajoelina to flee the country.
During a ceremony at the presidential palace in Antananarivo, Randrianirina said the country needed “bold decisions” at a critical moment, describing the new prime minister as a leader of integrity.
Randrianirina has rejected claims that his rise to power was a coup, saying the Constitutional Court of Madagascar legally transferred authority to him.
He has pledged a two-year transition that includes nationwide consultations, a new constitution, and presidential elections planned for 2027.
