The decision followed a meeting in Abuja between the Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, and the (RIPAN).
At the meeting, Enoh said stronger collaboration between government and industry players is needed to stabilise the sector and sustain Nigeria’s rice self-sufficiency efforts. He warned that the influx of cheaper imported rice is hurting local production and discouraging investment.
RIPAN Director-General, , said smuggling has forced many mills to close, while others are operating far below capacity.
He added that despite providing jobs for over 100,000 people and supporting millions of farmers, the industry continues to face challenges including high production costs, insecurity, and poor infrastructure.
