The announcement was made by Nigeria’s defence minister, Christopher Musa, after a high-level security briefing with the president in Abuja.
Musa said the meeting allowed service chiefs to provide the president with an update on ongoing military operations and the security situation across the country.
According to him, the president was briefed in detail on developments on the ground and the challenges facing troops in the fight against armed groups.
The minister noted that although recent attacks have occurred in some areas, the Armed Forces of Nigeria have continued to respond forcefully.
He said several militant commanders have been neutralised in recent operations, while troops have also recovered weapons and other assets belonging to insurgents.
Musa also paid tribute to soldiers killed in the line of duty, describing their sacrifice as painful but necessary in the effort to secure the country.
He added that security agencies are adjusting their strategies, noting that extremist groups often increase activities during the Ramadan period.
The defence minister expressed confidence that with new military equipment and improved coordination among security agencies, Nigeria’s armed forces will ultimately defeat terrorism.
