Young Dolph’s family is releasing a statement following the Memphis rapper’s tragic death on November 17.

The statement, obtained by WREG, refers to Dolph, born Adolph Robert Thornton, Jr., as their angel.

“There are no words that exist that sufficiently express the pain we are feeling like a family. Losing Adolph, Dolph, Man-Man, changes our lives forever. And while we will take each day as it comes, we are comforted in knowing that he leaves a legacy that reflects his heart,” the statement reads.

“A heart that was for his family. A heart that was for the people. We are grateful for the outpouring of love. We are grateful that his godly obligation to show kindness to the world is being acknowledged.”

It continues: “As a family, we were blessed to call him our son, our nephew, our brother, our cousin, our partner, and our Father. And now, we have the honor of calling him our angel. A role he has always played.”

The statement also includes a quote from author Rudyard Kipling, best known for writing The Jungle Book, stating, “If you can talk with the crowd and keep your virtue, or walk with King, nor lose the common touch; If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you; If all men count with you, but none too much; If you can fill the unforgiving minute with 60 seconds worth of distance run. Yours is the earth and everything that’s in it and what is more, you’ll be a man my son.”

Young Dolph was shot and killed in his hometown. He was 36. WREG reports that Memphis Police said one male victim was located and pronounced dead at the scene and confirmed Dolph was the victim.

Officers and witnesses gathered in front of a broken window at Makeda’s Butter Cookies, a bakery in a local Memphis strip mall. A man who identified himself as the business’ owner said a young man had been shot while buying cookies. Reports claim that the rapper’s vehicle was found outside Makeda’s.

Memphis police released photos of the two suspects wanted in Dolph’s shooting death.

The pair of suspects are seen getting out of a white, two-door Mercedes Benz armed with guns and wearing sweatshirts, as they approach the Memphis rapper. Investigators say the two suspects shot him several times before fleeing.

Dolph was pronounced dead at the scene. So far, no arrests have been made in his death, however, police say the investigation is ongoing.
