Viola Davis plays Michelle Obama in ‘The First Lady’ Trailer
Viola Davis has transformed into Michelle Obama in the upcoming anthology series, The First Lady, which follows former presidential couples throughout American history.
In the Showtime trailer released on Thursday (Feb. 17), Davis is seen as Mrs. Obama opposite O-T Fagbenle (The Handmaid’s Tale) who will star as Barack Obama. Lexi Underwood (Little Fires Everywhere) and Saniyya Sidney (King Richard) play their daughters, Malia and Sasha Obama.
“Playing the extraordinary @MichelleObama was no small task but an honor of a lifetime,” Davis captioned her Instagram post alongside a trailer of the show.
The 10-episode series will also follow the Fords and the Roosevelts, among many others, according to Variety.
Michelle Pfeiffer will play Betty Ford and Aaron Eckhart is Gerald Ford, with Gillian Anderson portraying Eleanor Roosevelt and Kiefer Sutherland will play Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Other cast members include Isaiah Williams as Martin Luther King III, Rhys Wakefield as Vice President Dick Cheney, Derek Cecil as Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, Kathleen Garrett as first lady Laura Bush, and more.
The First Lady premieres on Showtime on April 17.
