US Urges Chad to Stay Alert Ahead Of Déby’s Funeral
The US has urged its nationals in Chad to exercise caution on Friday, the day of the funeral of the late Chadian President Idriss Déby.
A post on the US embassy warned US nationals to “avoid areas where there are large gatherings of people”.
The funeral ceremony, to be held in N’Djamena’s main square, La Place de la Nation, will be followed by prayers at the capital’s main mosque.
The embassy urges nationals to keep a low profile and “exercise caution if [they are] unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings and demonstrations”.
It also said “traffic will be disrupted during and after the funeral”.
Chadian authorities declared Friday a national holiday for the state funeral of the late president.
Mr Déby’s burial will take place later in the village of Amdjarass in the Far East.
