UK spy chief urges anti-war Russians to ‘join hands with us
In an extraordinary public appeal for new agents, MI6 head Richard Moore called upon Russians who are appalled by their country’s invasion and occupation of Ukraine to join forces with Britain’s foreign intelligence service.
Delivering a speech and interview in Prague, Moore drew parallels with the crushing of the Prague Spring movement in 1968 by Soviet-led armies, urging Russian recruits to act against the injustices they witness today. He assured potential agents that their secrets would be kept safe and emphasized the importance of protecting assets. Moore also expressed optimism about Ukraine’s ability to regain territory taken by Russia, as the country continues its counter-offensive.
In his address, he highlighted the increasing role of artificial intelligence in intelligence-gathering and espionage, noting that MI6 personnel were using AI to identify and disrupt the flow of weapons to Russia for use in Ukraine. While countering China remained a top priority, Moore emphasized the ethical and safe use of AI as a key focus for the future, affirming the West’s determination to prevail in harnessing its potential for good.
