Travis Scott released a statement after at least eight people died and dozens of others were injured at the Astroworld Festival Friday in Houston, Texas.

About 50,000 people were at the sold-out outdoor Astroworld Festival at NRG Park, the stadium complex where the Astrodome and the NRG Stadium stand when the incident happened just after 9 p.m. CT.

“I am devastated by what took place last night. My prayers go out to the families and all those impacted by what happened at Astroworld Festival,” he Tweeted Saturday afternoon. “Houston PD has my total support as they continue to look into the tragic loss of life.”

He continued: “I am committed to working together with the Houston community to heal and support the families in need. Thank you to Houston PD, Fire Department, and NRG Park for their support. Love you all”

The event’s organizers also issued a statement.

“Our hearts are with the Astroworld Festival family tonight — especially those we lost and their loved ones,” the festival tweeted early Saturday. “We are focused on supporting local officials however we can. With that in mind, the festival will no longer be held on Saturday.”

Additionally, Texas Governor Greg Abbott has directed a state agency to offer resources for the investigation over what happened at Astroworld.

“The State of Texas is ready [to] assist in the response, and I have directed the Texas Department of Public Safety to make state resources available to support the investigation,” Abbott said in a statement Saturday, according to The Hill.

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said a meeting will be held with all relevant agencies to discuss how the deaths occurred.

“I have called for a detailed briefing from all stakeholders, including Live Nation, Harris County, NRG Park, Police, Fire, Office of Emergency Management, and other agencies, explaining how the event got out of control leading to the deaths and injuries of several attendees,” Turner said, according to The Hill.

Eight people were killed and many others were injured after a crowd surged toward the stage at Travis Scott’s Astroworld music festival on Friday night.

Investigators on Saturday were still trying to determine exactly what happened, but the incident occurred when “the crowd surged towards the stage, crushing those at the front who were unable to escape,” local fire chief Sam Peña Said.

The incident broke out just after 9 p.m. CST. An estimated 50,000 people attended the sold-out event at NRG Park.

Video recordings of the event show Travis on-stage looking confused as an ambulance with flashing lights moves into the densely packed crowd.

Concert-goers reportedly rushed the stage to escape the chaos, causing panic, while the situation worsened when security personnel were overwhelmed, police say.
