Royal Family Aide Resigns After Accusations Of Racism Against Black Palace Guest
A member of King Charles’ core team has reportedly resigned following racist remarks to a Black guest of Buckingham Palace.
A member of King Charles’ core team has reportedly resigned after accusations that the aide made racist remarks to a Black guest of Buckingham Palace.
Domestic abuse activist Ngozi Fulani attended a Buckingham Palace reception to combat violence against women on November 29, hosted by Queen Camilla. She claims a palace aide asked her a series of strange questions like “what nationality are you?” “where do you really come from?” “where do your people come from?” and “what part of Africa are you from?” Fulani also alleged the aide moved her hair to see her badge.
See her Twitter thread below:
“Mixed feelings about yesterday’s visit to Buckingham Palace. 10 mins after arriving, a member of staff, Lady SH, approached me, moved my hair to see my name badge. The conversation below took place. The rest of the event is a blur Thanks @ManduReid & @SuzanneEJacob for support.”
According to PEOPLE, the person who questioned Fulani was a member of King Charles’ senior team. Their name has not been made public but has been shared on social media, with some pointing out that the person was also responsible for acclimating Meghan Markle to life as a royal. A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said the aide has resigned and apologized after “unacceptable and deeply regrettable comments.”
The statement also read,
“We take this incident extremely seriously and have investigated immediately to establish the full details. In this instance, unacceptable and deeply regrettable comments have been made. We have reached out to Ngozi Fulani on this matter, and are inviting her to discuss all elements of her experience in person if she wishes.”
“In the meantime, the individual concerned would like to express her profound apologies for the hurt caused and has stepped aside from her honorary role with immediate effect. All members of the Household are being reminded of the diversity and inclusivity policies which they are required to uphold at all times.”
Meghan Markle’s racism story
Fulani’s story has now gone viral, which has caused Meghan Markle to trend. Author Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu tweeted, “Meghan Markle and Prince Harry told you of racism in Royal Family & household. But she was vilified, abused & violated for speaking the truth.”
Journalist Genelle Aldred tweeted, “It’s wild to me that @KensingtonRoyal @RoyalFamily can rightly and SWIFTLY apologise to Ngozi Fulani today and STILL not acknowledge the racism against Meghan, the credible death threats from the far right! Nothing to say about any of it at all.”
Another journalist, Luke Hanrahan, sounded off: “Meghan Markle had a point… maybe more people should’ve listened to her?”
