Rapper Chika Addresses Disturbing Social Media Posts About Her State Of Mind
Earlier this week, Chika, born Jane Chika Oranika, tweeted, “alive. wanna go home.”
She also added, “leaving the hospital. not that i should care about updating anyone besides family. I just wanna be left alone, if that’s okay. i appreciate the prayers and stuff. Thanks.”
It’s unclear if the 25-year old attempted to take her own life nor is it clear why she was hospitalized. However, she did take to Twitter to explain that some people have it all wrong writing, “Please, I know people assume that because the internet treats me like sh*t, but believe it or not, I have a real-life that is a lot harder.”
Chicka also took to social media today (March 28) to remind people that while she appreciates the kind words and prayers, “nobody understands how I am feeling. There is little solace in words being sent my way. I just want to go.”
On March 26, the 25-year-old posted a lengthy message on Instagram that read in part, “I went to the top of the intercontinental, but could not jump, not because I don’t want to, but because the metal stairs were scary,” she wrote. “It looks like crying wolf, but it’s not. It’s just difficult to find the right way. The quickest way. the painless way. I am tired of myself too.”
The Montgomery, Alabama native also posted on IG Story, “find my body in st paul idgaf” and “*madison hope ur happy.”
After going viral for her freestyle about Kanye West’s support of former President Donald Trump, Chika, who is an openly queer artist and performer, signed a record deal with Warner Music in July 2019. In 2020, she received her first Grammy nomination for Best New Artist.
