Migos rapper Quavo has penned an emotional tribute song to his late nephew Takeoff. Quavo released the Takeoff tribute “Without You” on Wednesday night, along with a video showing the Migos artist smoking in the studio while listening to his emotional, melodic new track.
“Out in the galaxy, up in the stars/Over the universe, it’s bigger than Mars/See you in heaven, see you heaven/When I see you in heaven, I’ma be with my dog,” the 31-year-old sings of his intergalactically-inclined nephew on the chorus.
Takeoff was fatally shot on Nov. 1 at the age of 28 in Houston. Suspect Patrick Xavier Clark was arrested at the beginning of December. Last week a Texas judge denied Clark’s petition for his bond to be reduced from $1 million to $300,000.
On “Without You,” Quavo reflects,
“Remember them days we ain’t have our shit together?/On the Nawfside times was hard, but them days was better.” Referencing their debut album as a duo, October’s Only Built for Infinity Links, he croons, “I wish I had a time machine/Just so you take a ride with me/I miss just how you smile at me/Unc & Phew until infinity.”
In a lengthy Nov. 12 letter on Instagram after his collaborator/family member’s funeral, the QUAVO HUNCHO rapper wrote, “It’s so hard to tell you I’ma miss you because you always with me and we did everything together. Since we were kids you been by my side, lookin up at me, them eyes waiting on me to make the next move…then you followed up right behind me.”
