Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has angered some Arsenal suporters
Arsenal supporters have been left angered by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after he liked a post on Twitter which suggested that he is too good for the Gunners.
The 31-year-old ended speculation over his future earlier this month by signing a new £250,000-a-week contract with Arsenal which keeps him at the club until 2023.
Aubameyang has been a pivotal part of Arsenal’s attack since he arrived from Borussia Dortmund in 2018, scoring 72 goals in 112 appearances.
But the Arsenal captain has upset some Gunners fans after liking a post on Twitter which claimed that a striker of his ability should be playing for the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.
The post which was originally written in French read: ‘He’s been so deserving of a team of the calibre of Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona, City, Liverpool, etc … not Arsenal for years.’
In response, one Arsenal fan replied to Aubameyang with: ‘If you felt you deserved a better team then go ahead and put in a transfer request…. you’re not first arsenal captain to disappear.’

Another Arsenal supporter added: ‘Me seeing that Auba liked that tweet almost made me vomit. Horrible thing, what was he thinking?’
While another Arsenal fan wrote: ‘I don’t understand that auba tweet at all, 2 days before a big game at Anfield as well. stupid thing to do.’
However, many Arsenal fans were quick to point out that Aubameyang could have easily liked the post by accident.
Other Arsenal supporters even sided with the opinion that Aubameyang does deserve to play for a club in the Champions League.
Aubameyang, meanwhile, insisted this week that he is happy to remain at Arsenal after signing his new deal and claims Mikel Arteta played a key role in convincing him to stay.
‘Two things persuaded me to stay,’ Aubameyang told Sky Sports.
‘The first thing was Mikel Arteta, because since he came he brings a lot of positivity and a new philosophy for us and I think that was important because it matched my game and I feel that I can improve with him.
‘I think this was the key factor and as well, the love that I receive from the fans and the whole club. Everyone is treating me very, very good, so I feel at home and that’s why I’m staying.
‘We had a chat during lockdown and we were supposed to talk about a game and he said ‘okay, forget about it, we’re going to talk about the future’ and he asked me what I wanted to do.
‘I was like ‘I feel good since you came, I’m improving, and the philosophy is very, very nice so I just want to stay’ and he was like ‘I’m sure if you stay you can leave a legacy, but it’s all about you and what you want. Of course you can leave and go for trophies in big clubs as well but I think you can create a legacy here in this great club.’
