Photographer Sues Nas After Sharing Photo Of Tupac On Instagram
Iconic rapper Nas has been hit with a lawsuit after he shared a photo of himself and Tupac Shakur from 1993 on his Instagram page.
According to HipHopDX, the suit was filed in the Central District of California on Feb. 2, 2022, by the photographer who captured the photo, Al Pereira. He claims that the Queensbridge artist shared the image without his permission or licensing the work.
The black-and-white picture shows Nas, Pac and New Jersey rapper Redman outside of Club Amazon.
Court documents obtained by RadarOnline state that Nas re-shared the photo on his IG account back in 2020, three years after Pereira registered copyright for it. The photographer claims that the iconic image has diminished its value.
Pereira is suing for damages plus an injunction against Nas for using his work.
This isn’t the first time Pereira has sued celebrities about his work. In 2017, he sued Kylie and Kendall Jenner for photos he took of Pac and The Notorious B.I.G. that they attempted to use as a part of a t-shirt that they sold on their websites, TMZ notes.
The apparel was ultimately taken down but Pereira was countersued by Kendall for $22,000 to cover legal costs citing the lawsuit as “frivolous.”
Pereira has filed over 450 copyright infringement lawsuits since 2015.
