Over 255,000 Jabs are Administered in South Africa, Amidst Surge
South Africa has so far given out 6,854,667 vaccine doses, with 225,808 being given out on Tuesday.
According to the most recent data, 60,001 people got the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) vaccine in the last 24 hours, while 165,807 got the Pfizer vaccine.
According to the Department of Health, the total number of J&J injections given out to date is 1 306,261 for J&J and 5,548,406 for Pfizer.
This raises the overall number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 2,391,223, according to the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD).
With 2,324 new illnesses reported in the previous 24 hours, Gauteng remains the hardest-hit province, followed by 1,580 in the Western Cape and 1,246 in KwaZulu-Natal.
Meanwhile, COVID-19 claimed the lives of 370 individuals, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 70,388.
In addition, hospital admissions have climbed by 650 in the last 24 hours, and 140 341 individuals in South Africa are presently infected.
The data is based on the results of 14,623,917 tests done in both the public and private sectors.
Global Perspective
As of July 27, the World Health Organization had received reports of 194 608 040 confirmed COVID-19 cases worldwide, with 4,170,155 fatalities (WHO).
The organization said, “This tendency is primarily attributable to considerable growth in the Americas and Western Pacific areas.”
Meanwhile, the number of fatalities recorded this week climbed dramatically, reaching over 69,000, a 21% rise over the previous week.
The Americas and South-East Asia areas recorded the highest number of new fatalities, according to the WHO.
According to the most recent figures, there have been almost 194 million cases documented globally, with over four million fatalities.
“If current trends continue, the total number of cases recorded globally in the next two weeks might surpass 200 million.”
The United States (500,332 new cases, a 131 percent rise), Brazil (324,334 new cases, a 13 percent increase), Indonesia (289,029 new cases, a 17 percent drop), the United Kingdom (282,920 new cases, a 5% decrease), and India reported the newest cases in the last week, according to the WHO (265,836 new cases, similar to the previous week).
Meanwhile, 182 nations have reported cases of the Alpha version, while 131 have reported cases of the Beta variation, 81 have reported cases of the Gamma variant, and 132 have reported cases of the Delta form.
