Nigerian Brothers Ikorodu Bois Famous For Their Funny, Creative Videos
Three talented young Nigerian boys, known as the Ikorodu Bois, have made waves on Instagram for recreating and “mimicking” famous music videos and Hollywood movie trailers using creative household items. They have caught the attention of more than 550,000 Instagram followers, as well as the likes of Will Smith and Lebron James.
15-year old Muiz Sanni, 10-year old Malik Sanni, and their cousin 13-year old Fawas Aina, have always enjoyed playing around and creating something out of everyday items. That’s when their 23-year old brother Babatunde Sanni decided to share their videos on social media.
“Our house is like a comedy house — we play too much,” Babatunde Sanni said. “I felt like ‘these things we are doing in our house — why don’t we start putting them online?'”
In 2017, Babatunde started the Instagram page. He is the one who manages the trio and also edits the videos they film. Since then, they have been producing videos that they shoot for a few hours up to several weeks. They recreated music videos such as Justin Bieber’s “Yummy” and Roddy Ricch’s “The Box” as well as videos that feature famous people such as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.
The creative trio uses props such as mops, pots, kitchen utensils, bins, and wheelbarrows instead of basketball hoops, luxury cars, and other expensive materials to save money. When they need extra characters, they ask their relatives and neighbours to join in.
“We intend to make people understand that there’s no limit to creativity,” Fawas said. “The fact that you don’t have a car — you can use something that looks like a car. Just for you to move you from one place to another, so that’s why we are using a wheelbarrow.”
Just recently, actor and rapper Will Smith shared a video of the Ikorodu Bois’ version of the “Bad Boys Forever” trailer on his Instagram with the caption: “Looks like we got stunt doubles for the next one, @martinlawrence!! This is GENIUS @ikorodu_bois!!” Basketball icon LeBron James and rapper Roddy Ricch have also noticed them and shared their videos on social media.
“Nigeria is a country where we have a lot of talent. We have a lot of multi-talented kids, a lot of brilliant students,” the boys say. “We should be focused; we should not let society factor affect us from achieving our dreams.”
