Lizzo said in the press release that’
“Growing up I never dreamed I’d get to experience all of the things I’ve accomplished in my life, and I’m just getting started. I’m so excited I get to share and relive my journey with my fans and HBO Max. From Cuz I Love You to my dramatic world tour, losing and gaining love, and creating my new album Special, y’all get to see the amount of time, patience, blood, sweat, and tears that went into this process. It takes 10 years to become an ‘overnight success,’ and hopefully, I can inspire other young creatives to keep going.”
Love, Lizzo is directed by Doug Pray, executive producer of HBO’s Dr. Dre/Jimmy Iovine documentary The Defiant Ones. The documentary follows Lizzo’s sophomore full-length, Special, which she announced with the single “About Damn Time” in April. Since then, she pulled double duty hosting and performing on Saturday Night Live, joined Harry Styles during his Coachella set, and more.
In September, Lizzo made history when she became the first person to play U.S. president James Madison’s historic crystal flute at a Washington D.C. concert. Earlier that month, Lizzo’s Amazon Prime Video reality series Watch Out for the Big Grrrls took home Emmys for Outstanding Directing for a Reality Program (Nneka Onuorah) and Outstanding Picture Editing for a Structured Reality or Competition Program.
