Responding to a “broken-down car campaign” spreading on social media, commuters, taxi drivers, and even public transportation employees have joined the protest, pretending they had broken down to block police and army trucks moving around.

Taxi driver Thein Naing said driving conditions have been so bad in recent days that he decided to join other drivers to protest the military takeover.

Opponents of the military coup have called for more big protests on Wednesday to show that the army’s assertion of widespread public support for overthrowing elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi and holding new elections was false.
