Kylie Jenner Slammed for Asking Fans to Donate to Make-Up Artist’s $60k Gofundme
The Kylie Cosmetics mogul, who was previously said to be a billionaire, posted a photo of her MUA Samuel Rauda in her Instagram stories hoping to raise funds towards his medical expenses.
Rauda got into a car accident earlier this month and needs life-saving brain surgery. Kylie, 23, shared a link to the GoFundMe page set by the make-up artist’s family and wrote: ‘May God watch over you and protect you @makeupbysamuel.
‘Everyone takes a moment to say a prayer for Sam who got into an accident this past weekend. And swipe up to visit his families’ go fund me.’ The campaign originally had a target of $60,000 and a person using the name ‘Kylie Jenner’ is reported to have donated $5,000 (£3,600).
It has since raised almost $100,000 (£72,000) and now has a target of $120,000 (£87,000). Although Kylie had good intentions, the Keeping up with the Kardashians star has been criticised for asking her young fans to pay for Rauda’s treatment when she could seemingly afford to cover the costs entirely.
One Twitter user commented: ‘Kylie Jenner, net worth 900M, is doing a GoFundMe (60K) for her stylist’s emergency surgery after a road wreck, and only donated 5k. I mean, this is absolutely disgusting. No one is coming to save us, certainly not the 1%.’
Another fumed: ‘anyone who donates to Kylie Jenner’s go fund me is f*****g stupid cause I know damn well she has 60k chilling in her bank account. Did she not think this thru? Is she not embarrassed? How is a billionaire not able to pay for her makeup artist’s emergency brain surgery???’
One critic weighed in: ‘Kylie Jenner, who makes $19K/hr asking for $$$ from her fans to help her makeup artist pay for a $60,000 surgery, is an excellent example of why we need universal healthcare. Even billionaire employers like Kylie and Walmart aren’t willing to pay for their employees’ healthcare.’
Another added: ‘It’s not even about the fact that she won’t pay for the surgery herself. Every single last one of Kylie Jenner’s sisters is a millionaire. Her parents are millionaires. Her friends are millionaires. But she asked the middle class for money.’
In 2019, Forbes named Kylie as the youngest self-made billionaire thanks to the huge success of her Kylie Cosmetics brand.
