The new Miss England is a Kenyan. Rehema Muthamia, 25, was crowned Miss England 2021 last week. It has been a year of wins for Muthamia, who also won the first-ever Miss All African Colours contest, also in England, in February this year.

Muthamia acknowledged the support that her family and Kenyans have given her in her journey to winning the prize.

 “My family is so supportive they can’t stop talking about it, and the Kenyan community has really got behind me and wanted to support me and loved seeing someone from my heritage being represented,” she said.

She studied genetics at the University of Sussex and graduated last year and now works as a health technology consultant.

The beauty also revealed that she had endured an abusive relationship but was now free of it, and that coming out of the situation had made her a stronger woman and given her the motivation to get into the competition.

 “I would have to say that the most difficult experience that I’ve had in life is having gone through an abusive relationship and it’s not something that people speak about often,” she said.

Muthamia also won the equivalent of Sh300,000: a wardrobe of evening and occasion wear, a photo-shoot, a personalised website, luggage, and a glamour mirror for clinching the title.

It was a big weekend for Kenyan beauties, as Kenya also crowned Sharon Obara as Miss World Kenya 2021 on Saturday at the Trademark Hotel.

ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru hailed the beauty of Kenyan women, promising more support for the pageant.

“As a ministry, we will step up and support this pageant. The kind of beauty and talent witnessed here today is one that cannot be undermined. Kenya has a lot of beauty”, he said during the event.

Muthamia and Obara will now go head to head, representing the two countries (England and Kenya) at Miss World in Puerto Rico on December 16.
