Kenyan authorities seize illegal shipment of doping materials
Kenyan authorities have intercepted a smuggled shipment of medication, including triamcinolone acetonide, a substance commonly used by athletes for doping. The country’s Anti-Doping Agency reported that a woman has been arrested in connection with the smuggling and is scheduled to appear in court.
Kenya, known for its success in international athletics, has faced significant doping challenges and is classified as a high-risk country by the international anti-doping body. The seizure of the illegal consignment is part of ongoing efforts to combat doping in the country, where more than 60 athletes are currently serving bans for doping-related offenses.
Notably, Boston Marathon winner Diana Kipyokei and Betty Wilson Lempus recently received lengthy bans for both doping and tampering with evidence in a doping investigation.
