Kanye West Pulls Out Of Coachella Music Festival
Grammy Award-winning rapper Kanye West has pulled out of the upcoming Coachella Music Festival. Before recently taking home two golden gramophones for Donda, the artist was scheduled to perform during the closing of the two-weekend festival, which begins on April 15-17, and wraps on April 22-24.
According to Variety, it is not clear why West dropped from the festival but he has reportedly not rehearsed or done any preparation for his highly-anticipated appearance.
Ye’s backing out shouldn’t come as quite a shock after his performance at the 64th annual Grammy Awards was barred before the show.
He has also made headlines for the tension between him and his ex-wife Kim Kardashian, her new boyfriend, Pete Davidson, and going on a racist attack targeted at The Daily Show and recent Grammy Awards host, Trevor Noah, which resulted in West’s Instagram being suspended for 24 hours back in March.
Billie Eilish is still confirmed to headline the festival alongside Swedish House Mafia, who is also on the bill, although it is unclear who replace Ye.
The original headliners for the festival were first announced in Jan. 2020 with Travis Scott, Frank Ocean, and Rage Against the Machine fronting the lineup.
Last year, Ocean decided to move his Coachella appearance to 2023, and Scott was removed from the festival amid the Astroworld tragedy that took place in Nov. 2021.
Kanye West last headlined Coachella back in 2011.
