Black History Month is now Black Future Month, according to Kanye West.

The Grammy-award winning recording artist who goes by Ye now made the declaration in an almost six-minute video shared on both his Instagram and Twitter Tuesday (Feb. 9). In it, he poetically muses about the forces Black families are up against, what his children are taught in school, the power of the Black dollar and more.

 “America is made to enslave us,” Ye says at one point during the speech. “What they ever gave us? We done proved, we done shown. It’s documented, now it’s cemented. Black Future, it’s time to invent it. If Ye said it, you know that he meant it. There’s no more Black History Month, every February reminding us that we just barely can vote. You shouldn’t have to be a tech genius, a basketball god, a musical wizard to be able to hold down your family.”

The Yeezuz rapper went on to describe what he meant by the month’s rebranding, including a breakdown of where we, as a Black people, are economical.

“We thinking about the future and not the past,” the creative shared. “This is a calling, this is more than balling, this is more than the dreams of the hard court and a Spaulding. This is more than the dreams of the White House, this is our house. This is our country to be bought, but nah, that’s not what I was taught.”

Donda 2 is currently slated for a Feb. 22 release.
