Ifa vs Government: Oluwo’s Perspective on Alaafin and Soun Succession
In a recent statement, the Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdurosheed Akanbi, emphasized that the state government is now responsible for the installation of traditional rulers, asserting that the era of relying on the Ifa oracle for such matters is long gone.
The Oluwo questioned why the Ifa oracle has not selected successors for the vacant stools of the Alaafin of Oyo and Soun of Ogbomosho, suggesting that genuine princes seeking to ascend the throne should engage with the state government rather than relying on Ifa.
The Oluwo highlighted that only those disconnected from reality or influenced by fictional portrayals in Nollywood movies would depend on Ifa to announce their monarchy, emphasizing that the government is the rightful channel through which God speaks in such matters.
