Grammy Announces Nomination Date for 2022 Grammy Awards
The Recording Academy has announced that the 64th Grammy Awards will be held on the 31 of January 2023.
A press release from the academy revealed that they will be announcing the nominations for the 2022 Grammy Awards on Nov. 23, 2021. For an artist to be eligible for a nomination, his or her music must have been released between Sept. 1, 2020, and Sept. 1 2021. Voting on the eligible work will start from Oct 22, 2021, to Nov. 5, 2021.
Following the Weekend’s controversial tweets after the 63rd Grammy Awards, The Academy has eliminated the “secret” nominating committees of artists, creators, and industry experts that curated the final lists over the past couple of decades — now, the final nominees will be chosen by the broader Grammy voting body.
The Recording Academy revealed that “the results of GRAMMY nominations and winners are placed back in the hands of the entire voting membership body, giving further validation to the peer-recognized process.”
According to a press release, two new categories will be added: Best Global Music Performance and Best Música Urbana Album. The Recording Academy is also pausing two honorary awards programs, the Grammy Hall of Fame and its special merit awards, for one year. The former is being delayed to revise its process and the Academy plans to relaunch it next year, while the latter is being delayed because last year’s honorees have not yet been properly acknowledged.
Also, the Grammy telecast is set to return to Staples Center in Los Angeles for the first time in two years. The 63rd Grammys was delayed from Jan. 31 to March 14, 2021 because of the pandemic and was held in Los Angeles Convention Center and not in the vast Staples Center.
Recall at the 63rd Grammys award, Burna Boy made Nigerians by becoming the first Nigerian Afrobeats artiste to win a Grammy. Wizkid also won a Grammy for his contribution to Beyonce’s Brown Skin Girl.
