Ghana: New oil refinery in Tema to open in August
the end of August this year. The refinery, owned by the Sentuo Group, is expected to produce a wide range of petroleum products, including liquified petroleum gas (LPG), jet fuel, gasoline, diesel, and fuel oil.
The Minister of Trade and Industry, K.T. Hammond, recently visited the facility and confirmed that the Sentuo Group is in talks with the Ministry of Energy to obtain 500,000 barrels of crude oil from Ghana’s oil fields for its initial production. By 2025, the refinery aims to refine 4.26 million tonnes of high-quality petroleum products, such as gasoline, kerosene, and diesel that exceed the Euro IV standard.
Additionally, the refinery plans to produce various by-products, including pitch products, lubricating base oil, solvent naphtha, polypropylene, ammonium sulphate, sulfuric acid, and sulphur. As one of Africa’s rapidly growing hydrocarbon markets, Ghana aims to double its production by the end of 2023.
