According to reporter Mycah Hatfied, Arianna, 4, was shot in her torso around 3 a.m. while asleep in her bed on January 1. Cops were reportedly called but didn’t arrive until 7 a.m., according to her father.
Ariana was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle and is now in stable condition. It’s unknown who or why someone was shooting into the home.
This is 4-year-old Arianna. She was front and center at the marches and rallies in her Uncle George Floyd’s case.
On Saturday, around 3 a.m., her father tells me she was asleep in her bed when someone fired several shots at their apartment. Arianna was hit in her torso.
According to KTRK-TV, HPD’s Major Assaults and Family Violence Division said, a suspect or suspects fired numerous shots into an apartment where four adults and two children were inside.
Arianna’s father says she remains in the hospital with a punctured lung and liver and three broken ribs. The family also told KTRK they know who opened fire and believe the shooting was just a coincidence.
Houston police Chief Troy Finner said the case is under an Internal Affairs investigation into whether the officers’ response time was delayed.
Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who for more than nine minutes held his knee to George Floyd’s neck in May 2020, was convicted on all counts of murder and manslaughter. He was sentenced to 22 ½ years in prison.
Fellow former officers J. Alexander Kueng, Thomas Lane, and You Thao’s state trial is set to begin in March 2022.
