Former Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has been appointed as the Global Advisor for the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP). The announcement was made on the company’s website, emphasizing Osinbajo’s role in accelerating clean energy deployment in developing countries. As Global Advisor, Osinbajo will work with governments to create an enabling environment for clean energy and facilitate capital flows into the sector. He will also advocate for just energy transitions in Africa, particularly through the Africa Carbon Markets Initiative (ACMI). Osinbajo’s appointment reflects GEAPP’s commitment to partnering with governments and communities worldwide to transition to clean energy systems that drive economic growth, create jobs, and meet climate goals.

In his response, Osinbajo expressed his honor to join the green energy access movement and commended GEAPP’s collaborative model and sense of urgency. He acknowledged the ambitious vision of GEAPP and stressed the importance of setting high goals to achieve universal energy access, climate change action, and the transformation of lives. Osinbajo confirmed his new role via a Twitter post, expressing his excitement to work with GEAPP.

GEAPP CEO Simon Harford praised Osinbajo’s extensive experience in public service, policy formulation, and implementation of developmental issues. Harford highlighted Osinbajo’s expertise, leadership, and global network as valuable assets in GEAPP’s mission to ensure affordable access to clean energy and a just transition for all. Prior to joining GEAPP, Osinbajo served as Vice President of Nigeria for eight years and held positions such as Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice for Lagos State. Osinbajo’s role as Global Advisor commenced immediately upon his appointment.
