Egypt president announces steps to end conflict in Sudan
Leaders from Sudan’s neighboring countries met in Cairo to discuss the ongoing conflict in Sudan. The meeting, hosted by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi, included leaders from Ethiopia, South Sudan, Chad, Eritrea, the Central African Republic, and Libya.
They expressed concern about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Sudan and called on the international community to provide necessary assistance. The meeting comes after previous talks in Jeddah, involving the US and Saudi Arabia, failed to stop the fighting.
An agreement was reached to form a ministerial mechanism to address the crisis in Sudan, with the first meeting to be held in Chad. The Sudanese military and Rapid Support Forces have agreed to several cease-fires, but the violence continues.
