Drake Breaks Silence on Astroworld Deaths
Drake is speaking out for the first time since joining Travis Scott on stage at Astroworld the same night 8 concertgoers lost their lives.
A day after he was named a defendant in one of the injury lawsuits filed against Travis Scott, Drake has shared some words on the chaotic events at the rapper’s Astroworld festival that left 8 people dead this past weekend.
Drake, who was one of the special guests at the concert in Houston, Texas said in a lengthy statement posted on his Instagram, Monday that his heart is ‘broken’ for the victims and pledges to support the families in any way he can.
“I’ve spent the past few days trying to wrap my mind around this devastating tragedy,” he wrote. “I hate resorting to this platform to express an emotion as delicate as grief but this is where I find myself.
My heart is broken for the families and friends of those who lost their lives and for anyone who is suffering. I will continue to pray for all of them and will be of service in any way I can. May God be with you all.”
A concertgoer Kristian Paredes, who says she was injured in the disaster, filed a lawsuit against Travis Scott, Drake, and Live Nation for encouraging violence. Paredes claims that Drizzy helped whip the crowd into a frenzy, and is therefore partly responsible for the deadly stampede that followed later on.
Eight people died and over 300 others were injured, as the crowd of 50,000 people rushed to the stage. Scott has apologized for his actions and has pledged to cover the funeral costs of the deceased.
The causes of death for those killed have still not been released.
