Demi Lovato Opens Up About Her Sexuality
Demi Lovato has come out as pansexual, after discussing her sexuality on The Joe Rogan Experience.
The Cool for the summer singer was talking to the podcast host about her future, when the conversation switched gears to sexuality.
When asked if she thinks children are in her future, Demi said: “I used to. I think if anything I want to adopt. I was engaged to a man last year.
“I totally thought I’d be married, maybe pregnant by now. And that’s not the case.”
She continued: “I also don’t know if I’m going to end up with a guy, so I can’t really see myself getting pregnant. I’m so fluid now. And a part of the reason why I’m so fluid is because I was super closeted off.”
Rogan then asked Demi if by fluid she meant “sexually fluid” and if she’s interested in men and women, to which Demi said, “Yeah, anything really.”
Rogan asked if she is pansexual, and Demi replied, “Yeah, pansexual.”
As their conversation continued, Demi spoke more about being a member of the LGBT+ community.
“I heard someone call the LGBTQIA+ community the alphabet mafia,” she said. “That’s it! That’s what I’m going with.”
She added: “I’m part of the alphabet mafia and proud.”
While this may be the first time Demi used the term pansexual to refer to herself, it’s not the first time the star has openly talked about her sexuality. Last year, she called herself ‘queer’ following the death of her Glee co-star Naya Rivera.
On social media, Demi wrote: “The character you played was ground-breaking for tons of closeted (at the time) queer girls like me. And your ambition and accomplishments were inspiring to Latina women all over the world.”
Later in her interview with Rogan, Lovato discussed finding women attractive while watching Sarah Michelle Gellar and Selma Blair in Cruel Intentions.
“I was like ‘Oh, I like that’,” she said. “But I felt a lot of shame because growing up in Texas as a Christian that’s much frowned upon. Any attraction I had to a female at a young age, I shut it down before I even let myself process what I was feeling.”
Demi’s upcoming album dancing with the Devil… the Art of Starting Over will be released in April.
