The veteran actor, who was most famous for his role as Andrew ‘Squiggy’ Squiggman in the classic 70s TV series, died on Friday night at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

It is understood that Lander’s death came after a 37-year battle with multiple sclerosis – a lifelong condition that affects both the brain and nerves.

David’s wife, actress Kathy Fields, mentioned  that both she and their daughter Natalie Lander were by his side when he died.

Lander was an American actor, voice actor and comedian, who also worked as the Goodwill Ambassador for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

He started acting at just 10-years-old and most famously played Squiggy in Laverne and Shirley between 1976 to 1982, along with sitcom sidekick Lenny, played by Michael McKean.

Tributes have poured in online for Lander, with many fans recalling their fond memories of the much-loved actor.
