Other nominees
Burna Boy was vying alongside other worthy artistes like the Ghanaian hip-hop sensation – Black Sherif, South African Amapiano and Afrobeats vocalist – Musa Keys, Tanzanian music queen – Zuchu and the Nigerian new generation music talents – Tems and Ayra Starr but came out triumphant thanks to the massive vote by fans both at home (in Nigeria and Africa by large) and outside the continent.
With this second MTV EMA plaque, Burna Boy joins D’banj (2007 & 2012) and Wizkid (2016 & 2021) as the only trio of African acts to win the prestigious award more than once; more so, making it a Nigerian affair.
Burna Boy was not there in person to receive his award because of his ongoing Love, Damini world tour which had him in Orlando, USA on the 9th of November, a few days before the MTV EMA 2022.
