Britons want Harry and Meghan lose their royal titles
A new survey has revealed the percentage of Britons who think the Duke and Duchess of Sussex should be stripped of their royal titles.
The results of the survey for Tatler magazine, which was conducted last month, come as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle came under fire from critics for commenting on the US election.
The couple are now facing calls for their royal titles to be removed, with Piers Morgan among those to call for the move, branding Meghan’s comments “brazenly partisan”.
The couple took part in a video as part of Time 100 – a list compiled by Time magazine to celebrate the world’s most influential people – in which they urged Americans to vote.
In the video Harry has urged US citizens to “reject hate speech” and vote in the country’s upcoming presidential election.
Meghan also spoke out at an online When All Women Vote event, claiming that those who do not vote would be “complicit”, warning “we all know what’s at stake this year”.
According to the Tatler survey, the majority of respondents believed Meghan should not be commenting on US politics.
The data, collected by research consultancy Savanta Comres, polled 4,174 British adults, only taking results from those who expressed an opinion when questioned.
It found 68% agreed Harry and Meghan should have their titles as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex taken from them after stepping down as working royals and moving to the US.
A total of 63% agreed that Meghan should not be commenting on US politics despite the fact she’s American, while 35% agreed that the duchess “wants to be president of the United States one day”.
