Barcelona had a tough night on all accounts against Athletic Bilbao at the San Mames, managing to somehow scrape through and pull out a 1-1 draw thanks to Memphis Depay’s equaliser with his first goal for the club.

Athletic Club’s pressing, however, was a cause for constant concern to the Barcelona defense, who were kept on strings for almost the entire game.

Eric Garcia was sent off in the dying moments of the game, while Gerard Pique had to be taken off very early in the game due to discomfort, which Barcelona have now confirmed on their channels to be a calf injury to the veteran defender.

Pique was unable to continue after strain on his soleus muscles forced him to go down and then be replaced by Ronald Araujo in the 31st minute.

The club’s communication states that Pique has discomfort in the soleus muscle of his left leg and further tests will be conducted soon to determine the exact extent of the injury to the veteran.

With Garcia suspended due to his red card and Pique now injured, Barcelona do have two centre-backs available for the clash against Getafe in Ronald Araujo and Clement Lenglet, but it will be a tough task as they are now stretched very thin.
