African Leaders Pay Homage to Duke of Edinburgh Price Phillip
Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has paid tribute to UK’s Prince Philip, calling him a “global icon”.
He said the Commonwealth will remember the prince “for generations to come”.
In a statement President Buhari also called the Duke of Edinburgh “a great man” and hailed his “enormous contributions” to philanthropic activities and charities, especially those dealing with wildlife conservation and youth development.
· Former Liberia President, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, said the news was “a very sad event” adding that she will remember him as “accommodating”:
I met him during the period of the presidency of William Tolbert of Liberia, who had been invited by the Queen. He was so stately, so accommodating, the warmth that he was able to convey in those short moments of being able to greet him, just gave me reassurance that I was in the presence of greatness. It just makes you feel so good, it makes you feel so welcome.”

· Eswatini’s royal family has send a message of condolences following the passing of Prince Philip.
“[He] earned the affection of generations in the UK, across the Commonwealth and the world,” one of the tweets shared by the kingdom’s foreign ministry said.
· Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta has paid tribute to UK’s Prince Philip who has died aged 99.
His Royal Highness Prince Philip has been a towering symbol of family values and the unity of the British people as well as the entire global community. Certainly, we mourn a great man who cherished and worked for peaceful co-existence of the human race”
· The head of the World Trade Organization Okonjo-Iweala has sent her condolences following the death of the UK’s Prince Philip.
Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala praised the duke for founding the Earthshot Prize council, an environmental award that she is involved with.
