A hero beyond the screen: Colin McFarlane opens up about his prostate cancer diagnosis and inspires others with his resilience
Renowned actor, aged 61, revealed he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, though at an early stage and currently requiring no treatment. Expressing concern for the high mortality rate among black men, he emphasized the importance of a simple blood test in saving lives.
The actor’s notable roles include voicing The Cube on ITV’s gameshow and appearances in various TV shows such as Death In Paradise, Holby City, and Coronation Street.
Additionally, he has lent his voice to popular children’s characters like Peppa Pig and Thomas & Friends. The actor’s own diagnosis came nine months after his brother’s prostate cancer diagnosis, both discovered through prostate-specific antigen (PSA) tests.
Aware of the risk, he has diligently undergone regular PSA blood tests, initially annually and later six-monthly, following a fellow actor’s advice about the disease’s prevalence among black men.
