Olugbenga Sholeye, a Nigerian lawyer with extensive experience and qualifications, recently achieved a significant milestone in his legal career.

The Canadian justice system sought to appoint a new Judge to head the Provincial Court of Alberta, and Olugbenga was among the candidates who met the criteria. With his educational background, including multiple law degrees and a Ph.D., as well as his experience as a Law Professor in Nigeria, Olugbenga emerged as a major counsel for the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench. Following a rigorous selection process, Olugbenga Sholeye was recommended for appointment and officially assumed his role as a judge on July 12, 2021.

His appointment, along with other deserving individuals, was celebrated by the Nigerian-born Minister of Justice and Solicitor General of Alberta, Kaycee Madu, who highlighted the diversity and increased access to justice that these appointments would bring to the province. Olugbenga’s achievement serves as a source of pride for Nigeria, as he continues to elevate the reputation of Nigerian professionals on an international stage.
