Daniel Dubois could land a world title shot if he beats Joe Joyce in their heavyweight Battle of Britain.

Dubois is the WBO’s No 2 ranked contender and promoter Frank Warren says he could fight for the belt if title holder Anthony Joshua vacates.

Joshua is mandated to face the WBO’s No 1 contender Oleksandr Usyk and Warren believes he may have to give up that crown for his two super fights with Tyson Fury for the undisputed title.

Warren says this potential world title shot makes the showdown between the two unbeaten heavyweight contenders at Westminster’s Church House even bigger.

“Daniel has the No 2 slot after Usyk with the WBO,” the Hall of Fame promoter told Mirror Sport . “Usyk is the mandatory to Joshua.

“Will Joshua vacate that title after his defence against Kubrat Pulev next month to fight Tyson? And if he does vacate that title that means the winner on Saturday will fight Usyk for the vacant title.

“Whatever happens, the winner of this fight could wind up being the mandatory for the WBO title.”

Warren’s readiness to pitch Dubois into a world title fight at 23 and after just 15 pro fights may appear risky, but he has total belief in the south Londoner.

He is staggered by his capacity to learn under Martin Bowers’ tutelage at the Peacock Gym.

“Daniel is the best young heavyweight I have ever been involved with,” said the Queensberry Promotions chief, who has worked with Mike Tyson and Frank Bruno previously.

“That could all change on Saturday, but at this stage, everything he’s done, he’s learned from it. Every fight he’s had, he’s learnt something and come back with something extra each time.

“It’s not just about getting the win, he’s added something different.

“Like when he fought Kevin Johnson, all he did was head hunt for 10 rounds.

“I told him to go and watch it with Martin, and Martin’s a good trainer, and what he did, which really pleased me, was in his next fight he was throwing body shots.

“He learns. He’s got great variety, he throws body shots, he throws great hooks, he uses his jab. He’s a smart cookie.”

Warren is excited by Dubois’ potential and sees him as Fury’s eventual heir as king of the heavyweight division.

“If Daniel comes through this fight, then everyone will be looking to him to take the baton from Tyson when he relinquishes it,” he said.

“I fancy Daniel, but you can’t overlook Joe. Look at his record and what he’s done as an amateur: a bronze medallist in the world amateur championships; Olympic silver medallist, should have got the gold; Commonwealth gold medallist; European gold medallist. You look at that and the level he was fighting at, that is some pedigree.

“I genuinely think this will be the battle of the jabs. It will be about who can impose himself early on in the fight, whoever does that will be the victor.”
