Vinicius Jr out for Eight Weeks after Sustaining Leg Injury
Real Madrid’s Brazilian forward Vinicius Jr could be out for two months after tearing ligaments in his right ankle during the defeat to Ajax.
The record reigning champions were knocked out of the Champions League in the round of 16 as they were humiliated 4-1 to a fearless and brilliant Ajax.
The teenage sensation left the pitch in pain as he shed tears during the first half at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The Spanish club said in a statement that Vinicius, who just received his first Brazil call-up last week to the Brazilian national team, has a “torn ligament of the tibiofibular joint in the right leg”.
The 18-year-old striker has made 28 appearances this season for Real after joining from Brazilian side Flamengo in the summer.
Real Madrid, who had won three successive Champions League titles before under coach Zidane, currently sit third in La Liga and are 12 points behind leaders Barcelona after their El Clasico defeat on Saturday.
With Santiago Solari as club manager, they have now lost four competitive successive games at the Bernabeu for the third time in the club’s history.
