Award-winning actress Uzo Aduba has shared some details about her romantic private wedding to filmmaker Robert Sweeting from last year.

The Miss Virginia actress was a guest on Live with Kelly and Ryan and revealed that she and her husband chose to publicly disclose their nuptials because their first anniversary was coming up.

“We were just taking the year to ourselves to enjoy the time and have some quiet time together, and then we were having our anniversary come up,” the 40-year-old said. The couple celebrated their anniversary in Tulum, Mexico.

Aduba also shared that planning a wedding during the pandemic was challenging but manageable when Ali Wentworth asked, “How do you do a wedding in a pandemic?”

“A lot of Amazon and Etsy gets you through,” Aduba said. “Just quietly and with a small group, of course — our most loved and closest family and friends. It was awesome.”

The Orange Is the New Black alum first shared the news in Sept. 2021 that she had tied the knot, quoting the romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally.

“When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.” —When Harry Met Sally, was how she opened the caption of her post from her wedding day.

Adding, “For some of us, it can feel like we spend our whole lives waiting for our special someone. My heart, my love — I’m so happy my life started last year with you. You’re the best thing that ever happened to me.”
