Nearly thirty years after the iconic film Twister, a thrilling standalone sequel is set to sweep audiences off their feet worldwide.

Starring Daisy Edgar-Jones from Normal People, Twisters plunges viewers into the heart of Oklahoma’s Tornado Alley, following a young storm chaser’s quest to conquer the forces of nature. At the film’s European premiere in London, Edgar-Jones reflects on the surreal experience of leading such a monumental project, remarking, “Growing up in London, attending film premieres here was a dream. Now, to have my own film showcased—it’s truly surreal and a dream come true.”

Alongside Edgar-Jones, the film features a stellar supporting cast including Glen Powell, known for his roles in Top Gun: Maverick and Hit Man, cementing his status as a powerhouse in Hollywood. Powell shares, “My passion for cinema has been a driving force throughout my career. Twisters embodies the spirit of the ’90s blockbuster era—a time that I hold dear—and I aim to continue captivating audiences.”

Joining the ensemble are Anthony Ramos from Hamilton, Daryl McCormack from Peaky Blinders, and Kiernan Shipka from Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina, promising a dynamic ensemble performance in this weather-centric thriller.

Real-Life Drama on Set

Filming in Oklahoma during tornado season provided an authentic backdrop for Twisters, albeit not without its challenges. Production was interrupted by severe weather, halting progress with five weeks left due to strikes among writers and actors. Ramos recounts the intensity of filming amidst real-life tornado threats, recalling a harrowing encounter when an EF3 tornado struck a nearby town, forcing the cast and crew to seek shelter.

“It was three months of non-stop adrenaline,” Ramos reflects. “We had some close calls. There were moments where we were sure a tornado would touch down at any minute.”

Director Lee Isaac Chung, known for the critically acclaimed Minari, brings his unique perspective to Twisters. Growing up near Oklahoma’s border in Arkansas, Chung’s childhood experiences with tornadoes deeply influenced his approach to the film. “Moving to a farm near Oklahoma, I vividly remember seeking shelter during a tornado shortly after settling in,” Chung shares. “Twister, the original film, resonated deeply with me for that reason.”

Chung also expresses gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate with industry legends Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall. “Working alongside Spielberg has been a career highlight,” Chung enthuses. “His mentorship and respect have been invaluable to me as a filmmaker.”

Twisters is set to captivate audiences worldwide, hitting cinemas on July 17th. Experience the thrill and drama of nature’s fury, brought to life by a talented cast and visionary director, in this eagerly anticipated sequel.
