Thomas Partey has lifted the lid on his frantic transfer deadline day in which he completed a last-gasp move to Arsenal.

The Ghanaian had been on the Gunners’ radar all summer but the north London club waited until the final day of the window to swoop.

Partey knew there was interested in him from Arsenal, but was of the impression that he would be an Atletico Madrid player this season.

That all changed following a phone call from Arsenal chief Edu, who frantically told the midfielder: “We have to do this today!”.

Recalling his thoughts on deadline day, and admitting his doubt that Arsenal could get the transfer over the line, Partey told Sky Sports: “I was not thinking of anything.

“I was OK I was talking to a friend that I train with to go and train in the morning and then my agent called me.
