The Nigerian Official Selection Committee (NOSC) for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has officially invited Nigerian filmmakers to submit their feature films for consideration in the International Feature Film (IFF) category of the 97th Annual Academy Awards (Oscars). Actress Stephanie Linus will be leading the NOSC for this year’s selection process.

The NOSC, which holds accreditation from AMPAS, plays a crucial role in selecting Nigeria’s official entry for the IFF Award. The submission portal will be open from August 1, 2024, to August 30, 2024, and filmmakers are encouraged to submit their films through the official NOSC website: www.thenosc.org.

The International Feature Film Award is an esteemed accolade presented annually by the Academy to feature-length films produced outside the United States. To be eligible, films must contain at least 50% of their dialogue in languages other than English. Filmmakers are required to meet specific criteria, including the provision of accurate, legible English subtitles, adherence to particular shooting formats, and proof of theatrical release. Detailed submission requirements can be found on the NOSC website.

In addition to the call for submissions, the NOSC has announced a significant reformation of its membership. New members include Ali Nuhu, Managing Director of the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC); Blessing Effiom Egbe, a prominent producer and director; Ijeoma Grace Agu, a celebrated actress; Kene Okwuosa, CEO of Nile Entertainment; and Victor Akande, an esteemed journalist, author, and film critic.

Returning members to the committee are notable figures such as Victor Okhai, President of the Directors’ Guild of Nigeria (DGN); veteran actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde; former DGN President Andy Amenechi; theatre practitioner Yibo Koko; writer and director Izu Ojukwu; film producer Emem Isong; director Dimeji Ajibola; writer and director Jude Idada; director John Njamah; and actress Meg Otanwa.

This reformation underscores the NOSC’s commitment to embracing new perspectives while retaining experienced voices in the film industry. Filmmakers interested in making a mark at the 2025 Oscars are encouraged to review the submission guidelines and take advantage of this opportunity to showcase their work on an international stage.
