Rio Ferdinand tells Marcus Rashford what he needs to do to become world class
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand believes Red Devils striker Marcus Rashford can become ‘world class’.
Rashford enjoyed another impressive night in the French capital as United beat PSG 2-1 in their opening Champions League group game on Tuesday night.
The England hitman’s powerful low drive sealed all three points late in proceedings – the second time he has won a game for United in the Parc des Princes.
And Ferdinand believes if Rashford can add a ‘poacher’s element’ to his game, he can go to the next level.
He told BT Sport: “I think this kid could be world class, he needs to add a poacher’s element, a couple of scruffy goals a season.
“Wayne Rooney scored outrageous goals when he joined United, he didn’t score ugly goals but then he got that into his game to add to his repertoire.
“If he [Rashford] can get that ugly side, this kid can go on to be unbelievable.”
Despite being the matchwinner, Rashford was quick to highlight the unsung heroes of United’s display after the victory.
“As a striker, late on in the game especially, that’s your mindset – you might only get one chance and you’ve got to do your best to make it count,” said Rashford.
“Whether it’s a penalty or a goal like today, at the end of the day it’s all the same and it gets us the three points.
“It was difficult at times and we had to defend very deep. They have some unbelievable players – Neymar, Mbappe, Di Maria.
“But the guys in the full-backs, they defended unbelievably.
“When they defend like that man to man, we can do great things.”
