Fred VanVleet had a special night in store for the Toronto Raptors’ fans, as he set a licence record, in points to lead the team over the Orlando Magic Tuesday.

VanVleet blew up for 54 points and hit a career-best, eleven 3-pointers. He finished the contest on 17-of-23 from the field and 9-for-9 at the free-throw line.

He exceeded the previous Raptors’ record of 52 points scored by DeMar DeRozan against the Milwaukee Buck in January 2018.

After his big performance, VanFleet said he knew he was on for an unforgettable night since his first three-pointer went in, ending up scoring 17 points in the first quarter.

“I knew after my first 3-point shot went in I was going to shoot the ball well,” VanVleet said. “I just tried to keep my foot on the gas and my teammates did a great job of finding me and screening for me. Once I hit like the fifth one, I knew it would be a good night for me.” After the 123-108 win over the injury-rampaged Orlando, the Raptors improved to 9-12 with their second consecutive victory in a two-game set with the Magic. Toronto plays again on Friday in a matchup against the star-studded Brooklyn Nets.
